Day 58:

Guided By Ego

”It is they who have traded guidance for misguidance, so their trade was not profitable, and they are not guided.”

Surah Al-Baqarah 2:16

Coaching Insight

The term ‘trade’ here is very interesting, where it refers to those that trade the path of faith with the path of misguidance. This metaphor highlights how intentionally choosing the wrong direction will not be profitable in your life. The Divine is always guiding us through a mystical language which may be seen or felt through signs that may not have a logical explanation. Logic is important, yet it could hinder the guidance that can be accepted by our inner wisdom but denied by our ego, resulting in feeling lost or confused.

Do you often find your mind yearning to go one direction while your heart is telling you to follow another?

When I was inspired to work on this project – Daily Divine Whispers, my mind couldn’t perceive it and that made me fall off track by believing I had higher or different priorities. However, my heart resonated with a resounding YES. Realignment came only by returning to that inner guidance. As I write these words right now, it has moved my state from being within dark clouds to a path of light.

“If you are not guided by God, you will be guided by something or someone else.”

Eric Liddell

Daily Practice

Take a quiet moment to connect with your heart and feel how God may be guiding you towards a certain direction. Also connect to your mind or ego and sense if you are pulled towards an image, project, event that doesn’t really speak to your soul.

Revisit your intentions, and express your openness to God’s guidance. You can say, “I am open to receiving Your guidance, and I trust the path you choose for me.” in your own way

Keep a journal to write down your insights, feelings, and thoughts that emerge and notice any patterns or recurring themes that may be signs of divine guidance.

Book Reference

“Ego is made of six primary ingredients that account for how we experience ourselves as disconnected. By allowing ego to determine your life path, you deactivate the power of intention.

  • I am what I have. My possessions define me
  • I am what I do. My achievement define me
  • I am what others think of me. My reputation defines me.
  • I am separate from everyone. My body defines me as alone.
  • I am separate from all that is missing in my life. My life space is disconnected from my desires
  • I am separate from God. My life depends on God’s assessment of my worthiness.”
