Intentions Return To You
If you act rightly, it is for your own good.
Surah Al-Isra 17:7
The Prophet (PBUH) said:
“إِنَّمَا الأَعْمَالُ بِالنِّيَّاتِ“ – “Actions are by their intentions.”
Before taking any action, pause and reflect: Why am I doing this? What is my true intention? Keep asking “why” until you reach the root of the action or behavior. Then pause and ground yourself in your truest intention.
Science now shows that intention activates specific neural pathways, shaping how we perceive and respond to life. What we hold in our hearts begins to rewire our minds, and therefore impact our reality.
This awareness can transform any simple action into a spiritual, meaningful act of devotion, which in return can change your reality and transform you. The mundane begins to hold meaning, and your thoughts and behaviours gradually shift.
We are made of energy, and our actions carry energy. Whatever energy we produce deeply affects ourselves and those around us. Your thoughts and the intentions you hold in your heart are an investment
Goodness returns to the one who plants it, by the mercy and guidance of Allah.
“Whatever is deposited in the invisible world of innermost hearts (ghayb as-sara’ir) is manifested in the visible world of phenomena (shahadat as-zawahir)”
Ibn Arabi
Think of something you do daily – like brushing your teeth. Why do you do it? While brushing, focus on the sensation of the brush, the freshness of the water, and how you feel before and after. Next time, set an intention before starting. It could be gratitude for your health, self-care, or even a moment of mindfulness. Think of other daily mundane actions that you regularly do without thinking, then transform these actions by setting an intention
Now, zoom out. Think beyond the daily tasks, reflect on the bigger picture. How can you live with purpose and spread goodness? What meaningful acts, creative projects, or contributions can you initiate?
Take a moment and clearly verbalize your intention, visualising every project, or deed. Intention is energy. Whatever you send out, inevitably returns to you.
“More than ten years have passed since I began taking photographs of frozen ice crystals. […] I discovered that water expresses itself in a vast variety of ways. I learned that these photographs of crystals are filled with much wisdom for us. In contrast to tap water, natural water displays a beautiful array of crystals – even more so when the natural water is exposed to beautiful music. There are also fascinating differences generated in the crystals when the water is shown different words, such as “gratitude” or “stupid.” These crystals are filled with lessons concerning how we should-and must-live our lives.”
