Day 84:

Sadness

وَلَا تَهِنُوا۟ وَلَا تَحْزَنُوا۟ وَأَنتُمُ ٱلْأَعْلَوْنَ

Do not falter or grieve, for you will have the upper hand

Surah Ali ‘Imran 3:139

Coaching Insight

Don’t you get those moments in your life where you feel like the weight of sadness feels so heavy on you? That heaviness that makes it hard to get out of bed, to show up, to keep believing things will get better. You feel alone, like no one really sees what’s going on inside you.

But God does. And not only does He see you, He speaks to you. This verse is not just guidance; it is Divine reassurance.

When these words were first revealed, they were spoken to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and to his companions during a time of deep hardship. God was reminding him not to give up, not to let sadness take over. And now, He is reminding you.

Whether it’s the job that’s depressing you, a relationship heartbreak, a family situation that feels impossible, or a hardship you can’t even explain – God sees it all. Do not falter or grieve, for you will have the upper hand”. These words are for you. They are not meant to invalidate your feelings, but to remind you that it won’t last forever. You are stronger than you feel right now, and  extremely precious to God and held high.

Even though you can’t see it yet, this moment will pass.

“God will be with you on your sleepless nights, and will dry your tears with His love. God is for the valiant.”

Daily Practice

Talk to God like he hears you and knows you. No filters, no formalities, just you and Him. Tell Him how you feel, even if it’s messy, even if you don’t have the words.

Do one thing today. When sadness feels too heavy, focus on just one small step. Maybe it’s getting out of bed, going for a walk, or making yourself a cup of tea or coffee. Even the smallest action is still movement forward.

Look for a quiet reminder. Even on the hardest days, something good still exists – a song, a kind word, the sun on your face. Notice it. Let it in.

Write it on a piece of paper, hold it, look at it, when you are feeling this energy.

Book Reference

“God does not require us to ignore or gloss over the sorrows we experience or the unjustness we see but to believe past them. Believe that he is on the case, that his intentions toward us are good, that he is ever inclined toward forgiveness and reconciliation. That the pains of this world are not his original plan and will not be how the story ends.”

Mostly What God Does is Love You – Savannah Guthrie

“Whenever you feel a negative emotion, be alone in a room and just sit down with it and feel. Don’t judge it, criticize it, intellectualize it, explain it away. Allow yourself to feel the pain. It’s okay. Accompany it – breathe into it – and after a while, you’ll feel the anger or fear or sadness lose its urgency and power. Allow God to tenderly embrace you in your pain. And then, at the right time, you can let go.”
