Divine Names
“He is God; besides Whom there is no god; the Sovereign, the Holy, the Peace-Giver, the Faith-Giver, the Overseer, the Almighty, the Omnipotent, the Overwhelming. Glory be to God, beyond what they associate. – He is God; the Creator, the Maker, the Designer. His are the Most Beautiful Names.”
Surah Al-Hashr 59:23,24
The Divine Names have profoundly shaped my life.
To truly know someone, we look at their qualities. Imagine a friend who is loving, kind, and peaceful, as you connect to their essence, your connection deepens.
Now imagine seeking to know the Divine, ever-expansive, beyond human comprehension. These Names, or attributes, carry mystical secrets and open a path of love toward truly knowing God.
He is ‘Al-Khāliq’ (The Creator), ‘Al-Raḥmān’ (The Compassionate), ‘Al-Wadūd’ (The Most Loving), ‘Al-Fattāḥ’ (The Opener), ‘Al-Jalīl’ (The Majestic), His attributes are endless.
When we reflect on these Names, when we witness creation through their light, our vision expands beyond the physical world. As many Sufi masters, including Ibn ʿArabī and Imām al-Ghazālī wrote, we are invited not only to know these Names, but to also embody them.
In doing so, a dormant truth within us awakens. We become mirrors of Divine qualities, and our bond with Allah deepens.
Imagine reflecting on ‘As-Salām’ (The Source of Peace): noticing it in nature, feeling it within your breath, sensing peace vibrating in every cell.
Allah is ‘Al-Wāsiʿ’ (The Expansive), who created the universe without limits, and He shaped you with limitless potential, embedding within you reflections of His attributes. By connecting with these Divine Names, we become nearer to our Source and closer to our truth.

“All Divine Names reflect the various aspects of the One, All-Encompassing Love, Alläh. Through the Divine Names, we try to sense the presence of the infinite in the finite. The Names describe how to come closer to God. Since they have themselves been created by God, they cannot contain Him, but they give us the possibility of knowing Him through them.
Still, this knowledge will always be according to human assessment. The only way to approach Him is to “take on” the colors of His attributes, namely, to set out to our own perfection and to use His attributes on ourselves until such time when the divine light out of which we were formed shines through our earthly shell and we become that which we truly are and were – before we came to this earth.”
