Steering Away
“But whoever turns away from My Reminder will certainly have a miserable life”
Surah Taha 20:124
When we move away from our Creator, shadows cast upon our soul, and life begins to feel dull and heavy. Even if we have moments of temporary happiness, at a deeper level we feel restless, unfulfilled, and empty. This does not necessarily occur as a punishment, but because of how we were created, to feel truly alive through connection with our Creator.
Straying from the Divine distances us from our soul and authentic self, disconnecting us from our true essence and the mystical realm within. God speaks to us through our soul. The more open we are, the more we can hear and see; and as we close ourselves off, all that remains is the mundane noise of the world or the voice of our own ego.
Viktor Frankl, author of Man’s Search for Meaning and a survivor of concentration camps, taught that suffering becomes unbearable when it is empty of meaning. His research, along with that of many transcendental psychologists, shows that humans who are wired for purpose and spiritual orientation can endure greater challenges with a deeper sense of acceptance, as if they are plugged into a truth beyond the circumstance.
When we are disconnected from the Divine, our inner world tightens and feels heavy and constricted, exactly as the Qur’anic word ‘dunkan’ (miserable) describes.
“The heart is like a mirror: when remembrance is absent, rust forms upon it.”
Al Ghazali
The moment you wake up, connect everything to the Divine. Feel gratitude for the bed you’ve slept in.
Step outside and reflect upon the vastness of the sky or how patiently and lovingly nature grows. Look at the people in your life and appreciate their presence.
Bring your attention to all the talents and gifts God has given you and feel them being fueled by the Divine.
Breathe into that profound connection with your Creator today.
“As it moves away from Spirit, life appears to be a struggle. Slower energies flow through you, and you may feel hopeless, helpless, and lost. You can use your free will to rejoin higher, faster energies.”
Wishes Fulfilled – Dr. Wayne Dyer
“Your relationship with God is the same as your relationship with the sun. If you hid from the sun for years and then chose to come out of your darkness, the sun would still be shining as if you had never left. You don’t need to apologize. You just pick your head up and look at the sun. It’s the same way when you decide to turn toward God—you just do it.”
