Clear Openings
“Indeed, We have granted you a clear triumph ˹O Prophet˺”
Surah Al-Fath 48:1
Every time I read this verse, it sends shivers through me. The words clear and opening together form an incredible portal of truth. A clear opening, it is not merely a doorway, it is a doorway filled with light. Often in life, we may have openings without clarity, or clarity without doors to walk through. Here, God is saying: We have opened clear openings for you, bringing both peace and direction to one’s life.
These words of light may be speaking about worldly opportunities as well as inner awakenings. When the heart is veiled, when body, soul, and mind are misaligned, life feels clouded. It’s as though inner blockages reflect outwardly in our lives. But when the waterfall of Divine love floods the heart, we feel the opening and the clarity, and develop a ‘baṣīrah’ – the Arabic word for deep, inner seeing. It is as if the path ahead glows with light.
This verse is also a prayer: that outward blockages dissolve, hesitation melts, and a radiant path of truth appears. Rumi in the ‘Masnavi’ explains that when the soul surrenders, doors open in unexpected places. He often compares it to windows being flung wide to let in the light of love.
Tune into these powerful words, and allow the gift of clarity and openness to enter your life and heart.
“There are openings in our lives, moments when we see beyond the ordinary. They are the doorways of grace.”
Henri Nouwen
Set aside 5 minutes today with no distractions.
Recite the verse three times, slowly and attentively (in Arabic if you can, or by listening to a recitation), allowing its rhythm and meaning to set.
After the recitation, write down one area in your life where you are seeking clarity or an opening.
Ask yourself What is one step I can take today if the path were already clear?
Take one small, concrete action aligned with that answer before the day ends.
End with this intention:
“I move forward trusting that clarity meets action.”
“Alläh opens the doors to success so that we may open all problems and obstacles. He is the One who opens the hearts to the truth and the One who lets knowledge and sincerity flow over our tongue. He is the One who lifts the veils and enables us to see what is essential in all things, who gives us the strength to be truthful.
To some of us Alläh opens up the doors of knowledge so that we may transmit it. To others He opens the doors of riches so that they may give to the poor and the needy. To some of us He grants strength and health so that we may help the weak and the sick. To others He opens the doors of childbearing so that our eyes and hearts may rejoice.”
