Day 75:

Power of Words

وَقُولُوا لِلنَّاسِ حُسْنًا

“And speak nicely to people”

Surah Al-Baqarah 2:83

Coaching Insight

This Quranic verse conveys the transformative power of language, reminding us to be mindful of our words as they are like vessels that carry the potential to heal, inspire, and build endless bonds. Saying positive words is like emanating light from your heart through your speech. Prophet Muhammad’s prayer about light, begins with “Send my heart light, send my tongue light”. Our word is not just a ‘word’.  It is a whole projection; of beauty, of shame, fear or enlightenment.

Modern science also confirms the power of speech. Studies in neurobiology show that positive words activate the prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain linked to clarity, calm, and emotional regulation, while harsh words activate the amygdala, triggering stress  in both the speaker and the listener. Even heart-rate coherence experiments (HeartMath Institute) show that when we speak with kindness, our heart’s electromagnetic field becomes more harmonious, and this field can be felt by people around us.

Japanese researcher Masaru Emoto also found that water exposed to kind, uplifting words formed beautiful crystalline patterns, while negative words created chaotic shapes.

This verse “And speak nicely to people,” it is not only a moral instruction  it is an energetic one. Every word you speak is a vibration that either elevates a heart or dims it, including your own.

can plant gardens

or burn

whole forests down”

Daily Practice

Set an intention today to share kind, loving words with those around you. If you find it challenging, take a moment to rehearse in your mind before meeting anyone.

Pause briefly before responding. This pause allows you to choose words that align with your intention.

Choose your words from the heart, not from reaction.

Observe mindfully the impact of your words on that person; how did they react? How do you think they felt?

Across your day, do this exercise and also notice the impact of people’s words on yourself (whether positive or negative), and learn from this observation process.

At the end of the day, reflect on how planting those words as seeds have made you and others feel, and how you will try to be mindful of what you say from now on.

Let your words become light.

Book Reference

“The word is not just a sound or a written symbol. The word is a force; it is the power you have to express and communicate, to think, and thereby to create the events in your life. The word is the most powerful tool you have as a human; it is the tool of magic. But like a sword with two edges, your word can create the most beautiful dream, or your word can destroy everything around you.

Through the word you express your creative power. It is through the word that you manifest everything. Regardless of what language you speak, your intent manifests through the word. What you dream, what you feel, and what you really are, will all be manifested through the word.”
