Shed Your Light
“Our Lord, perfect for us our light”
Surah Al-Tahrim 66:8
A beautiful prayer. May God help us extend our light, allowing that inner flame to ignite and go beyond the walls of our hearts. We are all born with light within us, yet sometimes life’s burdens can add layers over our essence, dimming our radiance and reality. We are called to remember and we also need to be in Remembrance of the ultimate charger of light, Allah Al-Nūr, God is Light.
As Kabir Helminski mentions in The Knowing Heart:
“Remembrance draws the light of Spirit into the heart; the compulsions of the demanding self can be witnessed and transformed.”
Our minds may become attached to or troubled by certain thoughts, while our soul, intertwined with the Beloved, can brighten our path with our original light. Interestingly, modern studies using biophotonic imaging have shown a subtle halo of light or increased electromagnetic coherence around the human body during deep prayer and meditation. Science is beginning to glimpse what has long remained unseen.
Ya Allah, Ya Nūr (O Allah, O Light), illuminate our hearts, our vision, and help us bring forth Your greatest gift to us, Your Divine Light.
“If light is in your heart, you will find your way home”
Rumi
Take a few deep breaths and place your hand on your heart or your gut.
Sense the inner flame of light within you.
As you inhale and exhale, visualise this light gently expanding beyond your body.
Throughout your day, imagine spreading your light to everyone you meet, through a smile, an act of giving, a kind word, or in any way your soul wishes.
“O Allah, place within my heart light, and upon my tongue light, and within my ears light, and within my eyes light, and place behind me light, and in front of me light, and above me light, and beneath me light. O Allah, bestow upon me light.”
Prayer by Prophet Muhamed (PBUH)
“Embrace Your Nature
One day the sun said
My rays are overbearing, they’re too powerful, I’ll dim my light
The stars whispered
We’ve intimidated the sky with our enchanted sparkles, we’ll stay home today
And the moon was ashamed of her daunting beauty and placed a veil over her glow
Brightness was taken from daytime, colour was stolen from nature
and the night was as bare as music with no rhythm
When you dim your light, you deprive others from seeing
Shine with abundance as it allows others to wake up”
